PEAK DISTRICt hikes

Map

Peak District National Park

Covering 555 square miles across Derbyshire, Cheshire, Staffordshire, Yorkshire and Greater Manchester, the Peak District became the first national park in the UK in 1951. Its landscapes range from the limestone valleys of the White Peak to the dramatic moorlands and gritstone ridges of the Dark Peak. It also holds a special place in history as the birthplace of the right to roam movement, sparked by the Kinder Scout Mass Trespass in 1932. Today walkers can climb to the highest point at Kinder Scout, take in the sweeping views from Mam Tor, or explore the Roaches and the many dales, caves, reservoirs and old railway paths that make the park so varied. The Peak District is as rich in history as it is in scenery and remains one of the most iconic places in the country to explore on foot.
